Travel Vaccinations
Travel has become relatively cheap and many of us are going to far away destinations for work as well as pleasure. Some of these destinations have disease and illnesses rarely seen in the United Kingdom. When planning a trip abroad we would advise you to make an appointment in our Travel Clinic to discuss the hazards you may encounter and what you can do to prevent illness and disease affecting you.
Our Travel Clinic operates on a Wednesday afternoon and alternate Monday afternoons and is very popular. You can book a first appointment by telephoning reception on 01993 811452. The first appointment is likely to take approximately 20 minutes, although this may vary depending on your destination. The nurse will help you book follow up appointments timed to your vaccination schedule.
Immunisations for travel abroad are not covered by the NHS and you will be asked to pay for the vaccines you decide to have. Listed below are the Surgery's current fees.
Hepatitis B - course of 3 or 4 at £40.00 each
Rabies - course of 3 at £55.00 each
Yellow fever - a £60.00 charge
Malaria - a £15.00 prescription charge, plus drug cost from your chosen pharmacy.
Other vaccines are available and the practice nurse will give you full details on request.
A course of vaccines may take a while to complete so book your appointment as soon as you can before you are due to depart.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below:
